Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has reaffirmed the crucial role of arbitration in an evolving legal and business landscape, calling for sustainability-driven dispute resolution. Speaking at the opening session of the second edition of Nairobi Arbitration Week, Odhiambo emphasized the adaptability of arbitration in meeting the needs of justice and industry.
Under this year’s theme, "Arbitrating in the Age of Sustainability," the event brings together top practitioners and experts in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to explore innovative ways of merging sustainability with arbitration. Odhiambo highlighted LSK’s commitment to ensuring its members remain at the forefront of the field through specialized training and collaborations with arbitration institutions.
“The real strength of arbitration is that it adapts to the needs of the parties and the demands of justice in an ever-changing world,” she stated. “We must collectively strive for a system where arbitration remains credible, impartial, and accessible.”
As arbitration gains prominence as a preferred dispute resolution mechanism, Odhiambo underscored the importance of upholding best practices and industry standards. She noted that LSK will continue advocating for high professional standards to enhance the credibility of arbitration in Kenya and beyond.
Nairobi Arbitration Week continues to grow as a premier platform for ADR thought leadership. With sustainability at the core of this year’s discussions, the event is expected to shape the future of arbitration by integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into dispute resolution frameworks.
