MP Joshua Kandie Launches School Feeding Program to Boost Academic Success

Baringo Central Member of Parliament, Joshua Kandie, has officially launched a school feeding program aimed at improving the academic performance of students in Day Secondary Schools across his constituency. The initiative, which will see the distribution of maize and beans to schools, is designed to provide students with the necessary nutrition to enhance their concentration and learning outcomes.

Speaking during the launch, Kandie highlighted the importance of a conducive learning environment, noting that it goes beyond the classroom to include the well-being of students. He stressed that proper nutrition plays a crucial role in student success, as it directly impacts their ability to focus, engage, and excel in their studies.

“This program ensures that no child has to learn on an empty stomach. Proper nutrition is essential for cognitive development and academic performance, and it is our responsibility to ensure that every student has the resources they need to succeed,” Kandie said.

The feeding program is expected to benefit hundreds of students in the region, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds who may otherwise struggle to access sufficient meals. Kandie also reiterated his commitment to expanding the initiative to cover more schools and called for the establishment of a national school feeding policy, especially in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) regions where food insecurity is a persistent challenge.

Kandie’s initiative has been well-received by both students and educators, who believe that the provision of meals will help reduce absenteeism, improve concentration, and foster a better overall learning environment.

As the program rolls out in Baringo Central, there are hopes that it will serve as a model for other regions to adopt similar measures to support students’ well-being and academic success. Kandie is determined to continue advocating for educational reforms that prioritize the welfare of students, particularly in marginalized areas.

With this move, MP Joshua Kandie has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that every child in his constituency receives an education free from the barriers of hunger and malnutrition.
