The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA), under the visionary leadership of Managing Director and CEO Henry Rithaa, continues to spearhead transformative policy reforms and initiatives aimed at revolutionizing the Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE) sector in Kenya. Committed to fostering economic growth and industrial development, MSEA is working closely with stakeholders to implement targeted programs that empower businesses and communities.
In a recent engagement, the MSEA Meru regional team met with Community Road Empowerment (CORE), a Japanese-founded NGO, to discuss youth empowerment through road access projects. Since 2021, CORE has collaborated with the Government of Japan, the World Bank, and local agencies to implement the Improved Livelihood Opportunities and Accessibility for Underserved Urban Communities in Meru initiative. This USD 2.75 million grant-funded project has positively impacted 1,250 youth organized into 50 groups, enabling them to participate in road infrastructure improvement while also securing company registrations to formalize their businesses.
As the program nears completion, these youth groups are now applying for Kshs. 400,000 grants to expand their enterprises. The recent meeting focused on integrating these groups into MSEA’s broader support framework, ensuring sustained growth and capacity building. Discussions also explored strengthening collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which would facilitate future projects such as NYOTA and KJET, key initiatives designed to provide long-term support and resources for young entrepreneurs in Kenya.
Through strategic partnerships and targeted interventions, MSEA remains at the forefront of economic transformation, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development. By aligning efforts with global and local partners, the authority is paving the way for an inclusive and thriving business ecosystem, ensuring that young entrepreneurs and small enterprises have the necessary tools to succeed in Kenya’s evolving economy.
