In a bid to enhance support for entrepreneurs in Kenya, the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) hosted a delegation from the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) at its headquarters this afternoon. The meeting, led by MSEA CEO Henry Rithaa and Director of Operations Hakeem Onasanya of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, sought to explore areas of collaboration to strengthen efforts aimed at empowering entrepreneurs.
The Tony Elumelu Foundation, which has been a significant force in supporting African entrepreneurs since its inception in 2015, revealed its plans to launch a program in Kenya that will focus on several key sectors. The program will provide training, mentorship, economic empowerment, and up to $5,000 in funding for entrepreneurs in agribusiness, creative industries, health, education, the green economy, and information and communications technology (ICT). The initiative is poised to bolster the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Kenya by offering the tools needed for sustainable growth.
MSEA, on its part, emphasized its ongoing efforts in fostering entrepreneurship through various partnerships. The authority has worked closely with the Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Project (KYEOP) to offer startup grants, and with the International Labour Organization (ILO) for capacity-building programs. MSEA also highlighted its collaborations with organizations such as Stanbic Bank and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to advance digital literacy initiatives.
As part of the discussion, upcoming programs like the NYOTA and KJET initiatives were also brought to the table. Both organizations expressed a shared interest in addressing key policy issues that hinder the ease of doing business in Kenya. The meeting underscored the importance of improving access to grants and strategic partnerships that can further enhance entrepreneurial support.
Through this partnership, MSEA and the Tony Elumelu Foundation aim to create a more conducive environment for entrepreneurs in Kenya, helping them scale their businesses and contribute to the broader economic growth of the country.
This collaboration marks an exciting step forward in advancing the entrepreneurial landscape in Kenya and across the African continent.
