Murang’a Deputy Speaker and Kihumbu-ini MCA, Hon. Moses Gachui, has reiterated the county’s commitment to tackling youth unemployment through the Murang’a Youth Service Program. Speaking at KÄ©morori Stadium in Maragua Sub-County, where he joined Governor Hon. Irungu Kang’ata, county leaders, parents, and the Murang’a Youth Cohort 3 graduates, Gachui emphasized the initiative's impact in equipping young people with practical skills and employment opportunities.
The Murang’a Youth Service Program was established to bridge the unemployment gap by providing young people with casual labor opportunities and hands-on training for two months. Upon completion, the graduates transition into Vocational Training Institutions within their wards, where they acquire specialized skills in various fields of their choice—fully funded by the Murang’a County Government.
Among the graduates were youth from Kihumbu-ini Ward, who now hold certificates of completion and a seed capital of Ksh 15,000 to help them kickstart their businesses. Additionally, they will benefit from a one-year tax exemption, further empowering them to become self-reliant entrepreneurs.
The grand graduation ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Chief Justice Emeritus David Maraga, Governor Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga, Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o of Kisumu, Hon. Agostinho Neto (MP, Ndiwa), Hon. Ben Momanyi (MP, Borabu), Hon. Joe NyĹ©tĹ© (Senator, Murang’a), among others.
Hon. Gachui reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to supporting youth empowerment initiatives, ensuring that Murang’a’s young people are equipped with skills and opportunities to thrive.
