In the wake of the unfortunate incident involving Hon. Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium today, Chief Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has strongly condemned the act of political intolerance, emphasizing the need for respect, dialogue, and unity in the nation's political discourse.
Mudavadi, speaking to the press shortly after the incident, described the attack as an alarming sign of growing political intolerance that threatens the very foundation of Kenya’s democracy. He pointed out that political engagement in Kenya must remain rooted in the ability to debate differing views constructively and peacefully.
“What happened to Hon. Peter Salasya today is unfortunate and deeply troubling. Political intolerance undermines the core principles of our democracy, which is built on the ability to engage with diverse perspectives in a respectful and peaceful manner,” Mudavadi stated.
The Chief Cabinet Secretary called on all Kenyans to remember that democracy thrives on disagreement and differing views. "We won’t always agree, and that’s perfectly fine," he remarked. "However, it is the way we handle those differences that defines the strength of our nation. Respect, dialogue, and unity are non-negotiable."
Mudavadi, who has been an outspoken advocate for national cohesion and peaceful coexistence, further asserted that respect must be given to all, but it must also be earned through actions that contribute to the well-being of the country.
"No one else will build this nation for us. If we allow division to take root, we risk tearing apart everything we’ve worked so hard to achieve," he warned. "A house divided cannot stand. We must choose reason over chaos and maturity over noise."
In his call for unity, Mudavadi urged political leaders and all Kenyans to prioritize the future of the nation over narrow partisan interests. He emphasized that Kenya's future depends on the collective efforts of its citizens and leaders, and only through collaboration and mutual respect can the country overcome its challenges.
"Kenya’s future is in our hands," Mudavadi concluded. "We have the power to shape it, but we must do so with wisdom, patience, and a commitment to building a peaceful and united nation."
Mudavadi’s remarks resonate at a time when political tensions have been rising, with incidents like the one at Nyayo Stadium serving as a reminder of the fragile state of political tolerance in the country. His call for unity and respect echoes the sentiments of many who are seeking to see Kenya move beyond the divisive politics that have at times hindered progress.
The Chief Cabinet Secretary’s statement is expected to serve as a rallying cry for peace and political maturity, urging leaders and citizens alike to prioritize national unity and the future of Kenya above all else.
