Nandi Senator Slams Former CS Interior, Questions His Political Ambitions

Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has strongly criticized former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, claiming that he lacks the political credibility to even be elected as a Member of County Assembly (MCA) or a village chairman. Cherargei’s remarks come amidst growing speculation about Matiang'i's potential future political ambitions, including a run for the presidency.

In a statement, Senator Cherargei accused Matiang'i of being responsible for the deaths of innocent children, alleging that under his leadership as CS Interior, the bodies of children were thrown into River Yala. "Matiang'i cannot even be elected as an MCA or a village chairman. When he was the CS Interior, he killed our children and threw their lifeless bodies into River Yala. Before thinking of contesting for the presidency, he must first answer for his actions," Cherargei said.

The comments by Senator Cherargei come amid rising tensions over the controversial tenure of Matiang'i as the Interior CS, with some critics alleging that he was involved in the mishandling of various cases under his ministry. The accusations related to the alleged deaths of children and their disposal in River Yala are part of ongoing claims and investigations.

While Cherargei's comments have sparked debate, many political observers view this as part of the intense political rivalry between leaders in the Rift Valley, where Senator Cherargei has been a vocal critic of the former CS.

The statement also highlights the growing political divide as leaders from different factions continue to question each other’s integrity and suitability for higher office, with Cherargei’s comments positioning him as a fierce opponent to any presidential ambitions that Matiang'i might have.

As the political landscape continues to shift, all eyes are on how the situation will unfold, with questions surrounding Matiang'i’s future political role and the impact of ongoing investigations into his tenure as the Interior CS.

Senator Cherargei’s remarks have ignited further discussions about accountability, leadership, and the ethical standards required of public servants, especially those who wish to seek higher office.
