NG-CDF Committee Retreats to Review Fund’s Progress and Future Directions

The Select Committee on National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) held a crucial retreat with the NG-CDF Board to assess the fund's current status and discuss future directions. The retreat, led by Hon. Musa Sirma (Eldama Ravine), the Committee Chairperson, focused on reviewing key reports related to the Fund's progress, challenges, and its impact on grassroots development.

The NG-CDF Board was represented by its Chairperson, Hon. Olago Aluoch, and CEO Mr. Yusuf Mbuno. The discussions were centered around the Biennial Report on the implementation of the NG-CDF Act, Cap. 414A, for the fiscal years 2022/2023 and 2023/2024. The report provides a comprehensive analysis of how the Fund has been utilized over the past two financial years, detailing the progress made and highlighting the challenges faced in the implementation of various projects.

Hon. Sirma, speaking at the retreat, reiterated the significance of the NG-CDF in driving grassroots development. "The Fund remains a cornerstone of grassroots development, empowering constituencies to implement projects that uplift the lives of our citizens. Our discussions today will focus on key reports that reflect the progress, challenges, and future directions of the NG-CDF," he said.

A critical point of the meeting was an update on the ongoing legal battle over the NG-CDF’s future. The Board is appealing last year’s High Court verdict, which invalidated the Fund and issued an order for it to cease existing by June 2026. The Committee members are keen to understand the status of the appeal and its potential impact on the future of the NG-CDF.

The retreat is part of the Committee’s ongoing efforts to ensure the NG-CDF remains an effective tool for driving development at the grassroots level, despite the legal challenges it faces. The discussions and updates from the retreat are expected to shape future policy directions for the Fund and guide its continued role in empowering local communities.
