The National Construction Authority (NCA) has continued with phase 1 of its Stakeholder Sensitisation and Civic Education on the Building Code, with forums held simultaneously in Kisii, Mombasa, and Kiambu Counties on March 18. The initiative aims to enhance compliance with building regulations, promote safer construction practices, and strengthen collaboration between stakeholders in the sector.
In Kisii, the forum brought together NCA Directors and Management, representatives from the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), and Kisii County Government officials. The discussions focused on regulatory compliance, construction best practices, and the critical role of various stakeholders in ensuring adherence to national building standards.
In Kiambu, the engagement was hosted by Eng. Julius Muchiri, Kiambu Regional Coordinator, and was graced by Salome Muthoni Wainana, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Housing, Physical Planning & Urban Development. Key government officials from Kiambu County, along with NCA Directors and Management, participated in the event, reinforcing the county’s commitment to structured and compliant urban development.
Meanwhile, in Mombasa, the forum was officiated by County Commissioner Mr. Mohammed Noor, represented by Mr. Joshua Muthoka, the Coast Region Assistant County Commissioner (ACC). The discussions were led by NCA Board member Eng Godana Hargura alongside other Directors and the Management team and representatives from the State Department of Public Works. The forum emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the Building Code, especially in coastal developments, where environmental and structural factors play a significant role in construction standards.
The Building Code sensitisation forums are part of the government’s broader agenda to ensure that all construction activities align with national regulations. By fostering dialogue between regulators, county governments, and industry players, the NCA aims to create a more structured, safer, and compliant construction sector across Kenya.
