In a bold statement, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has affirmed that President William Ruto’s government will not be deterred in its development efforts, even amid opposition from certain leaders in Mount Kenya. Speaking to the press, Sudi emphasized that the Kenya Kwanza administration will continue its development agenda across the entire country, regardless of how different regions voted during the 2022 elections. He pointed out that Mount Kenya, a region that played a crucial role in supporting President Ruto’s bid, should expect visits from the government as part of ongoing development projects.
“We will be in Mount Kenya next week, and we are not seeking permission from anyone,” said Sudi. “We are coming to do development for the people, and we will not be threatened by anyone, not even by those who oppose us. The people of Mount Kenya supported this government, and it is time for them to see the benefits of that support."
Sudi’s remarks come in response to statements made by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who had previously warned President Ruto not to visit the region. Gachagua’s comments raised concerns about the political dynamics in Mount Kenya as 2027 elections approach. However, MP Sudi was clear in his message: "We are going to Mount Kenya to engage with the people and carry out development projects. We will not be stopped."
Gatundu South MP, Elijah Kururia, also weighed in on the matter, calling for an end to tribalism and stressing that President Ruto, as the elected leader, should not be asked for permission to visit any region of the country. Kururia urged Kenyans to embrace unity, noting that Mount Kenya has no separate president and that it is President Ruto’s right to visit and address his supporters in the region.
"The small noise you are hearing from certain people preparing for the 2027 elections should not concern you," Kururia said. "We are loyal to the president, and we welcome him to Mount Kenya. He has every right to visit and continue engaging with his people as he did during the electioneering period."
As tensions rise ahead of the next election cycle, President Ruto’s planned visit to Mount Kenya next week is expected to be a significant moment for both the government and the people of the region. Despite the challenges, the administration is determined to carry on with its development initiatives, reaffirming its commitment to all regions, regardless of political affiliation.
President Ruto’s upcoming visit to Mount Kenya is set to mark a pivotal moment in the political landscape as the country looks ahead to the 2027 general elections.
