Rainbow 4 Afrika UK Donates Ultrasound Machines to Boost Maternal Healthcare in Busia County

In a significant step toward improving maternal healthcare in Busia County, Rainbow 4 Afrika UK has donated two state-of-the-art ultrasound machines to Angurai and Matayos Sub-County Hospitals. The donation aims to reduce maternal mortality rates by enabling early detection and screening of fetal abnormalities, ensuring timely medical interventions for expectant mothers.

The handover ceremony, held at the hospitals, was graced by the Deputy Governor of Busia County, H.E. Arthur Odera, who also serves as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health. In his remarks, Hon. Odera expressed his appreciation for the ongoing support from Rainbow 4 Afrika UK and emphasized the importance of the ultrasound machines in improving maternal care in the region.

"These ultrasound machines will significantly enhance our capacity to provide high-quality prenatal care, ensuring that complications are detected early and addressed promptly. This donation aligns perfectly with our county's strategic plan to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates," said Hon. Odera.

Dr. Frank Wanyama, leader of the Rainbow 4 Afrika UK Kenya delegation, highlighted the organization's long-term commitment to strengthening healthcare in underserved communities. "Our partnership with Busia County continues to grow. These ultrasound machines are a testament to our shared vision of ensuring that every expectant mother receives the care she deserves," Dr. Wanyama stated.

This donation brings the total number of ultrasound machines provided by Rainbow 4 Afrika UK to four sub-county health facilities, with Sio Port and Nangina Mission Hospitals also benefiting from similar equipment in previous donations. The expanded access to ultrasound services will help reduce the burden on expectant mothers, many of whom previously had to travel long distances to receive such services.

Local healthcare workers expressed their gratitude for the donation, recognizing its potential to significantly improve maternal health outcomes in the region. The County Health Department has committed to providing training for healthcare workers on the effective use and maintenance of the ultrasound machines to ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative.

With this donation, Rainbow 4 Afrika UK has made a tangible impact on improving maternal and infant health in Busia County, marking a critical milestone in the fight to reduce maternal mortality and ensure healthier pregnancies for the region's mothers and children.
