Ruiru Member of Parliament, Hon. Simon King’ara, has taken a significant step toward bridging the gap between technical education and industrial employment by securing a strategic partnership between Ruiru Technical and Vocational College and Full Care Company EPZ.
On a visit to the institution yesterday, Hon. King’ara engaged with officials from the export processing zone (EPZ) firm, which established a factory in Ruiru last year. The company has since played a crucial role in offering employment opportunities to local residents, strengthening the region’s economic landscape.
Recognizing the importance of equipping young people with practical skills that align with industry demands, Hon. King’ara proposed a collaboration between Full Care Company EPZ and Ruiru Technical and Vocational College. In response, the company committed to offering students attachment opportunities and potential long-term employment, a move that will significantly benefit the youth in the constituency.
“This partnership is a game-changer for our students. Many young people struggle to transition from education to employment due to a lack of hands-on experience. By securing industrial attachments and job opportunities for them, we are setting them on a path to self-reliance and career success,” stated Hon. King’ara.
He further emphasized the need for a structured approach where industries actively engage with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to ensure that students graduate with relevant, market-driven skills.
The collaboration between Full Care Company EPZ and the technical college will not only enhance skills development but also bolster economic growth in Ruiru. With the rising demand for skilled labor in the industrial sector, partnerships like these ensure that young graduates are not only employable but also competitive in the job market.
Hon. King’ara also revealed that this is just the beginning of his broader vision to bring more investors and industries into Ruiru, creating a sustainable job market for the youth. He encouraged more companies to adopt TVET integration programs, saying:
"We want our technical institutions to be the first choice for companies seeking skilled professionals. This partnership model should be replicated across different industries to guarantee our youth a bright and secure future."
The MP pledged to continue advocating for policy frameworks that facilitate stronger ties between industries and learning institutions, ensuring that Ruiru’s young workforce is well-prepared for the evolving job market.
This initiative aligns with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the government's push for TVET education as a driver of economic growth. By fostering public-private collaborations, Ruiru is setting an example of how local leadership can play a proactive role in tackling unemployment and boosting industrial productivity.
As the partnership between Ruiru Technical and Vocational College and Full Care Company EPZ takes shape, students can look forward to enhanced learning experiences, internship placements, and direct access to employment opportunities, marking a new era of empowerment for the youth in the constituency.
