Sakaja Joins Ruto For Groundbreaking Exercise For Southlands Lang'ata Affordable Housing Project

President William Ruto flanked by Nairobi Governor H.E. Sakaja Johnson broke the ground for Southlands Lang'ata Affordable Housing Project in Mugumoini Ward, Lang'ata Sub-County.

The Ksh. 25 billion project sits on a 37-acre piece of land along Southern Bypass aims to construct 15000 housing units. The houses will rise up to 17 floors with various unit sizes.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, the Head of State emphasized the need for affordable houses in Nairobi. "Today, we are here to launch this project that will change the lives of the people in this area by restoring dignity. Nairobi is a city, and we must build modern and affordable houses in Nairobi to bring out the image of the city." President Ruto said.

The President also assured the area residents of adequate social facilities once the project is completed. "I know some of you have concerns. I want to assure you that the government will make sure there are enough social amenities. With the completion of Northern Water Collector Tunnel, there will be enough water for all residents and the new estates we are constructing. We will also make the project incorporate schools and parks so that this city will be a livable city.” Ruto added.

While commending the President on Nairobi Developmental Tour, Governor Sakaja assured the residents of the reclamation of Mugumoini Market land, "We thank the President for what he has done for the Nairobi people in the last few days. What you have done is phenomenal. It would have taken many years to achieve. As President has said, we will sit down with the relevant people and give Mugumoini market back to the people."

The Governor also emphasized the importance of coexisting together as the people, saying the prerogative of the unity in our country is immediate and necessary, and it's for the future of our country.

The work at Southlands Lang'ata Affordable Housing Project will take about two years to complete.
