Senator Fatuma Dullo, representing Isiolo County, has formally sought answers from the Senate Committees on Finance and Budget, and Roads, Transportation, and Housing, regarding the implementation and status of various development projects in her county.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sen. Dullo demanded a comprehensive report on projects funded by the Equalization Fund in Isiolo County, questioning the Committee on Finance and Budget about the allocation and progress of these initiatives. She requested that the committee provide a detailed list of all projects financed by the Equalization Fund, including their respective budget allocations, implementation timelines, and the criteria used in selecting these projects.
The senator specifically asked for clarity on the parameters under which projects were chosen, including whether public participation played a role in identifying priority areas. She also sought an update on the current status of each project, including the percentage of completion, any delays encountered, challenges faced, and mitigation measures taken to ensure continued project delivery.
The Committee, chaired by Senator Ali Roba of Mandera, has been tasked with addressing these concerns in its upcoming report, with a focus on the disbursement schedule and any delays in the release of funds that may have affected project progress.
In addition to her request on the Equalization Fund projects, Senator Dullo, who also chairs the Senate Security Committee, turned her attention to another crucial infrastructure concern in her county – the delay in the completion of the Ngarendare Bridge project. The senator has urged the Committee on Roads, Transportation, and Housing, led by Senator Eddy Oketch of Migori, to provide an update on the construction status of the bridge, including the reasons for any delays and whether the contractor has adhered to the agreed-upon timelines. She also requested a breakdown of the total project budget, the amount disbursed thus far, and any outstanding payments contributing to the delay.
Further complicating the situation, Senator Dullo is calling for an investigation into allegations of financial mismanagement regarding the 2KM cabro road paving project in Bulapesa Ward. She has asked the Committee on Finance and Budget to provide detailed information on when the contract was awarded, the total contract sum, and the percentage of work completed so far. She also raised concerns about whether public participation occurred before the project’s implementation and has requested transparency on the payments made to the contractor to date.
In her concluding remarks, Senator Dullo requested the Senate committees to provide a list of all infrastructure projects in Isiolo County for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 financial years, highlighting the allocated budgets and amounts already expended.
As these matters unfold, residents of Isiolo County are eagerly awaiting clarity on the progress of key infrastructure projects that are vital to the region’s development.
