Senator Mandago Engages with Striking UHC Workers, Pledges Support for Sustainable Solutions

Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, who also chairs the Senate Health Committee, today engaged with striking Universal Health Coverage (UHC) workers at the Parliament Buildings, as they voiced their concerns and demands. Senator Mandago expressed his unwavering commitment to ensuring that the rights of healthcare workers are upheld, emphasizing the crucial role that these workers play in the well-being of the country’s healthcare system.

"Strong healthcare systems are built on the well-being of our workers. Their dedication and efforts are integral to ensuring that all Kenyans have access to quality healthcare services," said Senator Mandago, speaking to the media following the engagement.

The meeting comes at a time when UHC workers have raised concerns about their working conditions, remuneration, and other issues impacting their ability to provide care to Kenyans. The ongoing strike has highlighted the need for urgent dialogue and solutions that ensure the sustainability of the healthcare system and the rights of its employees.

Senator Mandago reassured the workers that the Senate Health Committee remains committed to advocating for sustainable solutions that address their demands while strengthening the nation’s healthcare framework. "The committee will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to find resolutions that are fair, balanced, and ultimately benefit both the healthcare workers and the citizens they serve," Mandago added.

As chair of the Senate Health Committee, Mandago has been a leading advocate for health reforms and improvements to the country’s healthcare sector. He has called for increased investment in healthcare, better working conditions for healthcare professionals, and improved infrastructure to support the implementation of Universal Health Coverage.

The strike by UHC workers has drawn attention to the challenges facing Kenya’s healthcare system, and Senator Mandago’s leadership is being closely watched as efforts to resolve the impasse continue.

The Health Committee will convene in the coming weeks to further discuss the issues raised by the striking workers, with a focus on creating long-term, sustainable solutions that ensure the growth and stability of Kenya’s healthcare system.
