Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker Muteti Murimi joined H.E. Governor Anne Waiguru and other leaders to officially launch Season 2 of the Minji Minji Football Cup at Kamiigua Polytechnic Grounds. With 180 teams and 4,500 youth participating, the tournament is set to be a game-changer in talent development and youth engagement across the county.
Speaking at the event, Speaker Muteti Murimi emphasized the importance of investing in sports to unlock opportunities for young people and steer them toward constructive activities. He highlighted how the tournament would not only keep the youth engaged but also serve as a breeding ground for future football stars.
"This tournament is more than just football. It is about creating a future for our youth, keeping them engaged in positive activities, and opening doors for their talent to shine," he said.
Governor Anne Waiguru echoed his sentiments, noting that sports play a critical role in youth empowerment. She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to supporting young talent and ensuring they have the resources needed to excel in sports and beyond.
Beyond football, the day was also marked by a special initiative to support Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Speaker Muteti Murimi, alongside Governor Waiguru, helped distribute assistive devices to over 300 PWDs, reaffirming the county’s dedication to inclusivity and equal opportunities for all. They also encouraged PWDs to register with national support programs to benefit from government-backed initiatives.
To further empower the community, it was announced that PWDs in Kirinyaga County will now be exempt from paying single business permit fees. This move is expected to boost entrepreneurship among persons with disabilities and provide them with better economic opportunities.
With the Minji Minji Football Cup now in full swing and ongoing efforts to uplift marginalized groups, Speaker Muteti Murimi and Governor Waiguru continue to champion progressive change in Kirinyaga. The tournament is already fostering a spirit of unity, competition, and ambition, setting the stage for a brighter future for the county’s youth.
