SuperMetro Limited has dismissed claims by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) regarding the suspension of its operator license, stating that the allegations are outdated and fail to reflect its current compliance status. The public transport provider asserts that it has met all NTSA regulations and addressed any prior concerns raised by the authority.
In a statement shared with various media houses on March 18, 2025, SuperMetro clarified that the issues cited by NTSA had been fully resolved before the suspension was enforced. The company argues that halting its operations unfairly impacts thousands of employees and commuters who rely on its services daily.
SuperMetro reiterated its commitment to regulatory compliance, explaining that while NTSA flagged five vehicles for expired inspection certificates, fifteen for outdated Road Service Licenses (RSLs), and others for speed limiter issues, all necessary updates were completed before the suspension took effect. The company worked closely with speed limiter vendors to rectify any faults, ensuring full compliance with transport safety standards.
NTSA also claimed that 64 SuperMetro drivers had failed a retest on March 10, 2025. However, the company clarified that these drivers had undergone the required retraining and retesting three weeks before NTSA's announcement. According to SuperMetro, all affected drivers have since been recertified and meet the legal requirements under the Traffic (Driving Schools, Driving Instructors, and Driving Licenses) Rules, 2020.
Regarding labor law compliance, SuperMetro affirmed that all drivers and staff have signed contracts, and statutory deductions, including PAYE, NSSF, and SHA, are up to date. The company expressed readiness to provide NTSA with supporting documentation to verify its adherence to labor regulations.
SuperMetro condemned the suspension as a rushed decision that fails to acknowledge its proactive measures in resolving compliance concerns. The company has called on NTSA to engage in a fair and transparent review process, emphasizing its unwavering commitment to offering safe, efficient, and reliable transport services to Kenyans.
