Uasin Gishu County, Ministry of Health to Establish Drug Rehabilitation Centre at Kamalel Health Centre

The County Government of Uasin Gishu, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Tobacco Control Board, is set to establish a much-needed drug rehabilitation centre at Kamalel Health Centre. This initiative aims to offer vital support to individuals grappling with drug and substance abuse, a growing concern in the region.

Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, during a site inspection, welcomed the development, acknowledging that the project has been long overdue. With the increasing number of people, especially youth, struggling with addiction, Governor Bii emphasized the importance of this facility in addressing the pressing issue. He also praised the Moiben Rehabilitation Centre for its role in rehabilitating addicts and reintegrating them into society.

"This facility will provide much-needed support to those affected by drug and substance abuse. Many of our youth are struggling with addiction, and as a government, it is our responsibility to ensure they receive the help they need to rebuild their lives," said Governor Bii.

Deputy Governor Hon. Evans Kapkea echoed the Governor’s sentiments, highlighting the significance of the project, particularly for young people who require urgent rehabilitation services.

"This project is timely and will go a long way in rescuing and rehabilitating our young people who have fallen victim to drug abuse," stated Deputy Governor Kapkea.

Health Services County Executive Dr. Abraham Serem, alongside Promotive and Preventive Health Chief Officer Dr. Paul Wangwe, emphasized that the establishment of the rehabilitation centre aligns with both the county and national governments' ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and improve public health. Once complete, the centre will offer counseling, medical support, and reintegration programs to assist individuals in their recovery and help them lead productive lives.

The team of engineers from the State Department of Public Works evaluated several potential sites, including Kibulgeny Dispensary and the Children’s Rescue Centre, before settling  Kamalel Health Centre as the most suitable location for the facility.

Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii reaffirmed the County Government's commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the rehabilitation centre project, which is expected to make a significant impact in the fight against drug abuse

 in the region.
