Uasin Gishu Women Rep Gladys Boss Sholei Attends Widows Economic Empowerment Programme in Turbo Sub-county

Uasin Gishu Women Representative Gladys Boss Sholei attended the impactful Widows Economic Empowerment Programme held at the DCC's Office Grounds in Turbo Sub-county. The event, which was organized by Women’s Rights Kenya under the leadership of Wakili Chiggai Harriet, focused on equipping widows with critical skills and knowledge for a more secure and prosperous future.

The programme featured transformative free training sessions aimed at enhancing financial literacy, understanding legal rights, learning investment strategies, and raising awareness about gender-based violence. These key areas were chosen to empower widows and help them secure better livelihoods for themselves and their families.

In her address, Sholei lauded the initiative, emphasizing its importance in giving widows the tools to thrive despite the challenges they may face. She highlighted the importance of financial independence and legal awareness as essential steps toward transforming the lives of women who have experienced the loss of their spouses.

"We must continue to create opportunities for widows to rise above their circumstances," said Sholei. "This training is an important step in ensuring that widows are empowered with the skills and knowledge to not only support themselves but also to contribute to their communities and the national economy."

The event was graced by several distinguished leaders, including Turbo Member of Parliament Hon. Janet Sitienei, Hon. Naomi Waqo, MP of Marsabit County, Oliver Karori from the Office of the President, and Kiambu High Court Judge Justice Dorah Chepkwony. Each of the leaders underscored the significance of such empowerment programmes and reaffirmed their commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of widows across Kenya.

"Today, we are not just providing training; we are giving widows hope and a chance to rebuild their lives," said Hon. Janet Sitienei.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and supportive society for all women, especially those who have faced the hardships of widowhood. With programmes like these, organizers hope to continue driving positive change and fostering greater economic independence for women across the country.

As the event concluded, the message of empowerment resonated strongly with attendees, and many expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to acquire new skills that would help them build brighter futures for themselves and their children.
