The youth of Uasin Gishu County, led by Youth President Kelvin Kipleting and Farbish Ouma, have issued a strong message of support to President William Ruto and Governor Jonathan Chelilim, as they declared their commitment to backing the current government and promoting unity within the region.
The declaration, made at a public gathering outside the iconic Silverline Hotel in Eldoret City, emphasized the importance of national unity and the youth’s role in eradicating divisive politics rooted in tribalism and regionalism. The event was a call for all young people in Uasin Gishu to come together as one generation, set aside differences, and support the government in building a stronger and more cohesive Kenya.
“We, the youth of Uasin Gishu, are here to make it clear that we stand with the government of the day,” said Kelvin Kipleting, Youth President of Uasin Gishu. “Our mission is to unite, eradicate divisive politics, and ensure that the country moves forward together. The time for division is over. We want to be part of the solution, not the problem.”
The declaration comes at a time when the country has been grappling with political divisions. However, the youth leaders emphasized their commitment to constructive engagement rather than violence. They made it clear that while they acknowledge the challenges the country faces, they will not resort to violence to express their concerns, as seen in last year’s stormy demonstrations.
“Violence is not an option when our voice is heard,” Kipleting continued. “Last year’s demonstrations were an awakening call, and since the government has agreed to listen to the majority of our concerns, we have decided to reciprocate by submitting our grievances in a civil manner. We believe in constructive dialogue, not destruction.”
The youth leaders also pledged to stand behind all elected leaders across Uasin Gishu, including Members of County Assembly (MCAs), Members of National Assembly (MNAs), Women Representatives, Senators, the Governor’s office, and the President’s office. They vowed to allow these leaders time to work, with a commitment to offering their views on areas that require improvement in a respectful and well-reasoned manner.
“We are committed to supporting the leaders we have chosen. We understand that leadership comes with challenges, and we will work together to identify areas that need improvement,” said Farbish Ouma. “Kenya belongs to all of us, and if we continue to destroy it, we will all be the casualties. Our future is tied to the prosperity of our country.”
The youth called for all Kenyans to think critically about how to build a better nation, where the focus will be on progress rather than division. The declaration underscored the urgency of national cohesion, and urged leaders who are unwilling to work together for the common good to reflect on their actions.
“We want to make it clear that any leader who is not ready to unite with their fellow leaders will fall in the same category as those who promote division,” Kipleting warned. “We need unity now more than ever, and anyone hindering this effort will not be spared from the collective judgment of the people.”
The event concluded with a resounding call to action: “Tujenge inchi yetu pamoja!” – Let’s build our country together! The youth of Uasin Gishu are determined to play a central role in shaping the future of Kenya, and with their commitment to unity and progress, they hope to inspire others across the country to follow suit.
As the youth move forward in their mission, they are confident that through dialogue, mutual respect, and collective effort, Kenya can overcome its challenges and pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive future for all.
