Wildlife enthusiasts and staff from the Department of Cooperatives and Tourism gathered at Rimoi Game Reserve today to celebrate World Wildlife Day 2025, emphasizing the importance of wildlife conservation and sustainable development. The event brought together partners, including Eka Hotel and Standard Media Group, who collaborated with the tourism department to mark this significant day.
This year's World Wildlife Day theme, 'Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet,' underscored the vital role that both human investment and conservation efforts play in protecting wildlife and fostering sustainable environments.
During the event, Tourism Chief Executive Officer (CEC) Robert Kangogo thanked Eka Hotel for its generous contribution to the Reserve’s environmental efforts. The hotel donated 10 dustbin pits to help reduce littering and improve the cleanliness of the reserve. “On behalf of the department, I want to thank all our partners for their unwavering support, and a special thanks to Eka Hotel for their generous donation of dustbin pits. These will significantly contribute to keeping the camp clean and free from litter,” Kangogo remarked.
The celebration also featured an unforgettable wildlife viewing experience. Visitors were treated to stunning sights of zebras and giraffes from the iconic Tabar Watchtower, showcasing the rich biodiversity of the Rimoi Game Reserve.
The event highlighted the integral role that wildlife plays in the environment and the local community’s well-being. Rimoi National Reserve is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including giraffes, elephants, zebras, waterbucks, and warthogs, making it a prime location for both conservation efforts and eco-tourism.
World Wildlife Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts required to protect endangered species and promote sustainable practices that benefit both the planet and its inhabitants. The Rimoi Game Reserve, with its thriving wildlife, is a testament to the importance of collaborative efforts in wildlife conservation.
