Youth Empowerment in Voi, Taita County: A New Era of Job Opportunities in Dubai

Today marked a pivotal moment for the youth of Taita County as recruitment for various job opportunities in Dubai officially kicked off, offering fresh prospects for the region's workforce. The event, which began early in the morning, provided local residents with direct access to government services, including assistance from the Huduma Center and KCB Bank.

A key figure in the event, Shadrack Mwadime, Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development, addressed a gathering of pastors from the Voi region, focusing on youth empowerment and the opportunities in Dubai. During the meeting, Mwadime took the time to address widespread misconceptions about the safety and treatment of Kenyans working in the Gulf country, urging the community to be cautious and well-informed.

He explained that many of the challenges faced by Kenyans working in Dubai stemmed from using unauthorized recruitment channels. “A lot of the difficulties people face come from not following the right procedures and using unregistered agencies. It is important to adhere strictly to government guidelines,” Mwadime advised, stressing the importance of using licensed agencies to avoid exploitation.

Mwadime also made a special appeal to the clergy, asking pastors to play a crucial role in preparing the youth for the challenges of securing employment abroad. “I urge you pastors to guide them effectively so they can succeed in interviews and make informed decisions,” he said, recognizing the influential role of religious leaders in shaping the youth's aspirations.

In his address, Mwadime also acknowledged the growing concern regarding mistreatment of Kenyans in foreign countries due to unscrupulous recruitment practices. He emphasized that with proper guidance and the right recruitment channels, the journey to working in Dubai could be made safer and more successful.

The recruitment drive, which is expected to continue for several weeks, has generated immense interest in the region, with many hopeful youths eager to take advantage of the new opportunities. Mwadime’s message resonated strongly with the community, encouraging a proactive and informed approach to securing jobs in Dubai and ensuring a safer, regulated process for those seeking to work abroad.

As the recruitment process unfolds, the hopes of many in Voi and the surrounding areas are high, with the potential to bring about transformative change and improve the livelihoods of countless families in Taita County.
