In a call to action for the youth of Moiben Subcounty, community leaders gathered at the ADC Church in Kimumu on Saturday, urging young people to take a more active role in both agriculture and politics to foster economic growth and peaceful engagement within the community.
Norbert Kipkemboi, a local youth leader and renowned farmer , emphasized the importance of the younger generation stepping forward to make a lasting impact. "The future of Moiben Subcounty lies in the hands of its youth," Kipkemboi said. "Agriculture offers vast opportunities for innovation, and it is our responsibility to take charge of this sector and ensure that our community thrives." He further urged the youth to embrace modern farming techniques to help improve food security and create employment opportunities.
In addition to advocating for agricultural development, Kipkemboi spoke about the need for increased youth involvement in both national and county-level politics. "We cannot afford to remain passive. Our voices must be heard in the political arena," he asserted. "If we want policies that reflect our needs, we must step up, get involved, and make sure that the decisions made are beneficial to us, our families, and the wider community."
Kipkemboi also addressed the rising issue of ethnic tensions in the region, calling for unity and respect for all communities within Moiben Subcounty. Recent reports of ethnic profiling by some local leaders have stirred concerns, but Kipkemboi was clear in his message: "We must respect each other, regardless of our ethnic backgrounds. The rise in ethnic profiling is not only harmful but dangerous. We must work together, not as different tribes, but as one community."
Echoing Kipkemboi’s sentiments, other leaders in the meeting emphasized the importance of peaceful political engagement. Mrs. Jane Kemboi, an elder in the community, called for an end to divisive rhetoric. "We need to set an example for the younger generation by working together, regardless of tribe. Unity should be our focus, not division," she urged.
As the meeting concluded, Kipkemboi reminded the youth that they are the future of Moiben Subcounty. "Our participation in agriculture, politics, and the unity of our people is key to ensuring that this region remains peaceful, prosperous, and full of opportunity," he said.
