Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has stirred the political waters with a bold suggestion of a potential 2027 presidential bid—together with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as his running mate.
Speaking during an interview on Hot 96 Breakfast Show, Owino said he and Nyoro, despite being from opposing political camps, share a passion for performance and results. He named a roster of prominent leaders he would consider aligning with, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna, James Orengo, Eugene Wamalwa, Gladys Wanga, Irungu Kang’ata, and George Natembeya.
“It all depends on the decisions we make together with my brother Ndindi, who is also a high performer,” Owino said. “If we decide to pursue the presidency today, with Ndindi as my deputy, we could do it without even needing to hire agents—asubuhi mapema!”
He stressed the importance of capacity and competence in leadership, suggesting that with the right team, his presidential ambitions could be more than just talk.
Babu Owino also took the opportunity to criticize both President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja. He accused the governor of failing to oversee key infrastructure projects, citing the alleged mismanagement of Ksh.380 million from the World Bank meant for roads in Embakasi East, Mathare, and Roysambu.
“The funds have been squandered. Contractors have left the sites. Who is accountable? The governor of Nairobi,” Owino said.
On President Ruto’s performance, Owino said he was once optimistic about Ruto’s leadership given his humble beginnings but now feels let down.
“This is a president who had the potential to be the best in Kenya... but as we move toward 2027, I know that he’s losing it because of the obvious things,” he said.
Confident about his political future, Owino concluded that he is “spoilt for choice” between running for governor or aiming higher.
“My supporters are passionately urging me to run for president in 2027. I believe I’m more than qualified,” he declared.
