Bahati Member of Parliament, Mrembo Irene Njoki, has commended the National Government for its ongoing support in enhancing trade infrastructure within Bahati Constituency. This came during the midterm review of the KES 51 million Dundori ESP Market, a transformative project poised to boost commerce and empower traders in Dundori center.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Njoki lauded the government’s commitment through the Market Infrastructure Programme, which has seen the construction of three modern markets—Kabatini, Dundori, and a soon to be launched facility in Bahati center. She noted that these investments are a clear testament to the administration’s focus on uplifting grassroots economies and creating dignified spaces for traders.
During the visit, the Deputy President assured leaders and residents that the longstanding land ownership issues in Dundori will soon be resolved, with the issuance of title deeds expected to follow. The MP welcomed this assurance, terming it a major relief for families and traders who have awaited regularization for years.
Additionally, discussions touched on the need for structured community access to Dundori Forest under the Shamba System. Hon. Njoki affirmed that the Deputy President had clarified that such access is permitted, provided it aligns with sustainable conservation practices.
Raising key local concerns, the MP called for inclusive employment practices at the Geothermal Development Company (GDC), urging for more opportunities to be extended to Bahati residents. She also petitioned for intervention regarding eviction notices issued by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) to traders along the Mailisita Heshima Mailikumi corridor, particularly where no road upgrade or viable alternatives have been provided.
Hon. Njoki concluded by thanking the Deputy President for his pledge to convene a leaders’ forum next week to discuss these and other pressing development priorities affecting the people of Bahati.
