Political leaders have been urged to refrain from abusing their power and instead champion peace, justice, and the protection of the vulnerable, in a powerful Palm Sunday message delivered by Bishop Mark Kadima at Christ the King Church in Bungoma town.
Speaking to a congregation gathered to mark the beginning of Holy Week, Bishop Kadima emphasized the crucial role of ethical leadership and the responsibility of those in power to uphold the dignity and welfare of all citizens, particularly the marginalized. His address tied the spiritual significance of Palm Sunday to broader societal challenges, highlighting the connection between faith and social responsibility.
“Palm Sunday is not just a celebration of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem,” Bishop Kadima said. “It is a call to humility, service, and compassion—values that must guide our leaders, especially in these times of political tension and economic hardship.”
As worshippers waved palm branches in remembrance of Christ’s entry into Jerusalem, the Bishop reminded the faithful that the true essence of the day lies in its moral and ethical imperatives. He urged believers and leaders alike to embody the principles of justice, peace, and compassion in their daily lives and governance.
“In our pursuit of power and influence, we must not forget those who are suffering, those whose voices are often unheard. Leadership is service, not self-interest,” he added.
Bishop Kadima's remarks come at a time when the country is grappling with political divisions and socio-economic struggles, making his call for unity and responsible governance particularly timely.
His message was met with applause and reflection by the congregation, many of whom expressed hope that such appeals would inspire positive change and greater accountability among public officials.
As Holy Week continues, Bishop Kadima’s message stands as a spiritual and moral compass, urging Kenyans—and especially their leaders—to prioritize peace, justice, and the common good.
