Nandi County Woman Representative Hon. Cynthia Muge has hailed the success of the inaugural Boso Supercup Volleyball Tournament as a transformative milestone in grassroots sports development, youth empowerment, and community cohesion.
Speaking at the thrilling finale held in Kapsabet Town, Hon. Muge expressed pride in the tournament’s far-reaching impact, noting that it was more than a competition—it was a movement.
“This wasn’t just a volleyball tournament. It was a bold statement—that Nandi believes in its youth, values equality, and is ready to unlock the economic potential of talent,” said Hon. Muge.
The month-long tournament, which began at the ward level, saw hundreds of teams from across Nandi County participate, thanks to seamless digital registration and a well-structured format. With monetary prizes awarded from the grassroots up, it drew widespread attention and enthusiastic support from local communities.
“We ensured that both men and women champions received equal prize money because we believe in fairness and inclusion at every level,” she added.
In a deliberate effort to promote professionalism and reward excellence, all county-level finalists received recognition and awards. Hon. Muge emphasized that beyond the trophies, the tournament offered a platform for talent scouting, youth engagement, and the redirection of energy away from social vices like drug abuse, gender-based violence, and betting addiction.
“This is our blueprint for creating a new culture in Nandi—where sports drive unity, pride, and opportunity.”
The event was supported by the Kenya Volleyball Federation, the State Department for Sports, and numerous partners, affectionately referred to as the “Friends of Nandi.”
Gracing the grand finale were notable dignitaries including Sir Farouk Kibet, Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, Governor Stephen Sang, MPs from various counties, County Assembly leaders, and thousands of cheering fans.
Hon. Muge also hinted at bigger plans ahead, stating her aspiration to secure at least Sh. 50 million annually in prize money for sports in Nandi County. She pledged expansion into other disciplines like football, netball, and handball.
“The future of sports in Nandi is brighter than ever. We are not just the Source of Champions—we are shaping champions for the future.”
The highly anticipated Second Edition of the Boso Supercup is already generating excitement, promising to elevate Nandi’s place on the national and global sports map.
