"Busia Mourns the Passing of a Cherished Elder: Tribute to Kuka Mubweka Namlanda"

Busia County has lost not just a man, but a pillar of wisdom and heritage. It is with deep sorrow, but also profound gratitude, that I join the family and community of Emakina in mourning the passing of Mzee Mubweka Namlanda, fondly known as Kuka.

Kuka Namlanda was a man of gentle strength, a living archive of our history, and a guide to generations. His footsteps echoed the stories of our land, his voice carried counsel that many, including myself, were blessed to receive.

Three years ago, I recall with warmth and reverence how he bestowed a powerful blessing upon one of his grandchildren—a sacred gesture that captured his love, pride, and vision for the future of his lineage. That moment was not just familial—it was spiritual, an anointing from an elder whose words were never uttered in vain.

In African society, elders are more than age; they are anchors of our morality, guardians of our customs, and custodians of wisdom. Kuka embodied all of this. His life was a quiet sermon, his presence a reassurance. A society that honours its elders is one that flourishes, and Kuka’s life was testimony to the value of intergenerational love and guidance.

As we lay him to rest, we acknowledge the painful beauty of God’s timing. Though our hearts are heavy, we smile through the grief, comforted by the knowledge that Kuka’s legacy lives on—in the stories, the traditions, and the countless lives he touched.

To the Namlanda family and the people of Nambale, I extend my heartfelt condolences. May you find strength in each other, and may Kuka's spirit continue to walk with us as we build the future he so deeply believed in.
