It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that I, Lee Kinyanjui, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of George Oduor, the dedicated bodyguard and trusted personal aide to Opposition Leader Raila Odinga, following his untimely passing.
George Oduor, known for his unwavering loyalty and remarkable commitment, served as an unsung hero, quietly and steadfastly protecting his boss through countless challenges over the years. His presence in the life of Baba (Raila Odinga) was that of a sentinel—vigilant, strong, and ever-present, often in the shadows, yet instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of one of the nation's most prominent political figures.
Oduor’s career was a testimony to resilience and quiet bravery. Over the years, he became more than just a bodyguard. He was a pillar of support during turbulent times, enduring the chaos and turmoil that came with the political strife of our nation. His role went beyond the physical act of safeguarding; George developed a keen intuition, a sixth sense if you will, allowing him to navigate through moments of uncertainty with the agility and reflexes of an antelope on the trail. In the heat of protest and unrest, he carried the heavy responsibility of ensuring his boss's safety, even as teargas became a routine in their lives.
Through all the public spectacles, George’s face reflected a seasoned calmness, an expression that said, “I have seen it all.” His experiences, from confronting self-serving individuals seeking political favor to facing those who appeared only when the feast was set, molded him into a figure who understood the true meaning of loyalty and service. Even when others laughed, George remained ever watchful, always aware that in politics, there were few who laughed with genuine intent.
In his capacity, George not only shielded his boss from potential harm in public but also cared for his personal well-being in private. Often, he ensured that Raila Odinga had nourishing food, delivering delicacies that would satisfy his hunger during long days, perhaps going unnoticed by many. His selfless acts of service will not be forgotten, as they painted a portrait of a man who truly gave his all for a cause greater than himself.
Today, as we mourn the passing of this great son of Siaya, we honor the legacy of George Oduor. His life was one of dedication, sacrifice, and humility, living in service to the nation and his principles. Though his journey has ended, his contributions will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew him, and especially in the hearts of those who stood beside him during these tumultuous years.
Fare thee well, George. Your life was a testament to the values of loyalty, bravery, and service. You will be dearly missed, but your legacy will continue to inspire us all.
