CS Kipchumba Murkomen Congratulates Kenyan Stars After Stellar Showing at London Marathon 2025

Kenya’s dominance on the global athletics stage was once again emphatically stamped at the 2025 London Marathon, with rising star Sabastian Sawe delivering a breathtaking performance to win the men’s race in a powerful solo finish.

Reacting to the historic win, Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen issued a heartfelt message of congratulations and national pride.

“I extend my warmest congratulations to Sabastian Sawe for obliterating the field and announcing his arrival on the grandest of stages — the World Marathon Majors — in such commanding fashion,” said CS Murkomen. “What an incredible moment not just for him, but for the entire country. You have made Kenya proud.”

Sawe’s victory marks a significant milestone in his transition from world-class 10,000m runner to marathon elite, and his performance in London cements his place among the world’s top long-distance runners.

The CS also praised the remarkable performance of Joyciline Jepkosgei, who clinched a hard-fought second place in the women’s race, demonstrating immense resilience and world-class consistency.

“To Joyciline Jepkosgei, your grit, determination, and fighting spirit on the streets of London remind us why Kenyan women continue to inspire generations across the globe. That silver finish was as glorious as any gold — you flew our flag high,” he said.

Murkomen further lauded Alexander Munyao, whose dramatic push in the final kilometers secured him a podium finish, claiming third place in the men’s race.

Alexander Munyao, congratulations for digging deep and battling with the heart of a lion. That third-place finish reflects the depth of Kenyan talent and our never-say-die attitude.”

The CS noted that Kenya’s consistent excellence on international stages like the London Marathon is not just a sporting achievement, but a matter of national pride and global admiration.

“Our athletes continue to be our finest ambassadors. They showcase the best of who we are — resilient, disciplined, and supremely gifted. I urge every Kenyan youth to draw inspiration from these champions. We are a nation of greatness.”

The Ministry of Interior, through its support for national cohesion and pride, continues to champion youth empowerment and positive engagement through sports and culture.

“As government, we remain committed to supporting the structures and institutions that empower talent from grassroots to global levels. We celebrate today, but we also recommit to nurturing the champions of tomorrow.”
