Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, on Sunday joined H.E. President William Samoei Ruto and thousands of worshippers for an interdenominational Palm Sunday service at AIC Kapng’etik in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
In his remarks during the service, CS Murkomen underscored the pivotal role of the Church, parents, teachers, and leaders in nurturing the next generation with strong moral values and civic responsibility.
“As our parents did before us, we must walk with our children, teach them integrity, respect, and discipline. The foundation of a strong and upright nation begins at home, in schools, and in places of worship,” said the CS.
Murkomen also commended the growing collaboration between churches and National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) in addressing social vices within communities, saying such partnerships were key to building a cohesive, peaceful, and productive society.
“The synergy between our religious institutions and NGAO has proven vital in confronting emerging threats to social order, including drug abuse, early pregnancies, radicalization, and crime,” he noted.
The event brought together a host of leaders from the region and beyond, including Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, Senator William Kisang, and Members of Parliament Gideon Kimaiyo (Keiyo South), Adams Kipsanai (Keiyo North), Joseph Wainaina (Nominated, Uasin Gishu), and Marianne Kitany (Aldai). Also present were County Assembly members led by Speaker Lawi Kibire and several church leaders.
In his Palm Sunday message, CS Murkomen wished Kenyans a blessed Holy Week, calling for reflection, national unity, and a recommitment to faith-based values in the face of modern-day challenges.
“Let us use this sacred period to renew our hearts, draw closer to God, and recommit to serving our nation with humility and righteousness,” he concluded.
