Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has paid glowing tribute to the late Hon. Amb. John Koech, describing him as a principled public servant and a beacon of integrity whose legacy will continue to inspire generations. Murkomen joined President William Samoei Ruto and other national and local leaders in Olbutyo, Bomet County, to bid farewell to the former MP, Cabinet Minister, and diplomat.
In his eulogy, CS Murkomen hailed Hon. Koech’s distinguished service across various sectors — from education and politics to diplomacy — noting that he served with “selfless dedication, decorum, and a rare depth of foresight.”
“Hon. Amb. John Koech’s illustrious career as a teacher, Member of Parliament, diplomat, and Cabinet Minister was marked by selfless service, utmost integrity, and principled leadership,” said Murkomen. “He was a trailblazer who inspired many of us to pursue careers in public service.”
A Diplomat and Patriot Remembered
Koech, who served as Kenya’s ambassador and later as a Cabinet Minister during a critical period in the country’s development, was remembered as a patriotic leader with a deep commitment to national unity and progress.
“He was a diplomat par excellence who approached politics with admirable grace and decorum,” Murkomen noted. “His contribution to national stability and development will not be forgotten.”
A Development-Conscious Leader
Throughout the funeral service, speaker after speaker described Koech as a leader who was deeply invested in the development of Chepalungu and Bomet County. His work in infrastructure, education, and social programs left a lasting impact on the communities he served.
“He believed in tangible results. Every project he touched left a visible transformation,” added Murkomen. “He was a man of vision, grounded in humility and unwavering patriotism.”
A Message of Comfort
CS Murkomen also offered his condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the wider community of Bomet, urging them to take comfort in the late Koech’s enduring legacy.
“We continue to pray for his family, friends, and the people of Chepalungu and Bomet County,” he said. “May they find peace, strength, and comfort during this time of profound loss.”
Honoring a Legacy
As Bomet laid to rest one of its most accomplished sons, there was a clear consensus among mourners that Hon. Amb. John Koech's life story is one of duty, discipline, and dedication. His legacy, leaders said, would live on through the institutions he shaped and the countless lives he impacted.
“Farewell, Mzee,” Murkomen concluded. “Your legacy of leadership with dignity will continue to guide us in the service of this great nation.”
