Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening security and improving public service delivery through ongoing engagement with key stakeholders under the #JukwaaLaUsalama initiative.
Speaking during a town hall meeting at Mwatate NG-CDF Hall in Taita Taveta County, Murkomen emphasized the importance of collaboration between security stakeholders, National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), local leaders, and citizens in addressing the country’s pressing security and administrative challenges.
"In Taita Taveta County, we have agreed to streamline the licensing and regulation of mining activities to reduce conflicts in the sector," said Murkomen. "We also deliberated on strategies to apprehend perpetrators of teenage pregnancies, early marriages, and sexual offenses, and explored amicable solutions to land and border disputes, as well as human-wildlife conflicts."
The town hall marked the conclusion of the Jukwaa La Usalama Coastal tour, which brought together leaders and communities across six coastal counties for dialogue and problem-solving on security matters.
Murkomen announced a raft of measures to be implemented following the engagements, including the acquisition of more police vehicles to enhance the mobility of officers, and reviewing the scheme of service to ensure fair promotion, career progression, and remuneration for police and NGAO officers. He also committed to the operationalization of gazetted administrative units, infrastructure development, and the empowerment of village elders to enhance grassroots governance.
"We are determined to address the issues raised by wananchi during this tour. This is not just a listening forum—it is a platform for action,” said the CS.
He was accompanied by Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime, Deputy Governor Christine Kilalo, MPs Shake Mbogho (Mwatate), John Bwire (Taveta), and Danson Mwashako (Wundanyi). Also in attendance were Deputy Inspectors General Eliud Lagat (Kenya Police Service) and Gilbert Masengeli (Administration Police Service), alongside other senior security chiefs and ministry officials.
Murkomen expressed gratitude to the residents of the Coast Region for their warm welcome and fruitful participation. "We thank the people of the six counties for embracing this initiative. The ultimate goal is a safer, more secure, and better-served Kenya. We will take #JukwaaLaUsalama to every region."
The Interior Ministry has pledged to maintain momentum on the reforms and ensure that voices from the ground continue to shape national policy and service delivery.
