Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially launched the Jukwaa la Usalama County Tours, aimed at enhancing public engagement on security, citizen services, and national cohesion. Murkomen, who arrived in Mombasa to kick off the tour, emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies, community leaders, and residents in addressing security concerns and improving service delivery.
Speaking at the start of the tour, Murkomen outlined the key objectives of the Jukwaa la Usalama initiative, which includes engaging with local residents, leaders, religious figures, regional and county security teams, National Government Administration Officers, and peace committees. The initiative is designed to foster closer interaction between the government and the people, ensuring that their voices are heard in matters related to security and public services.
“The Jukwaa la Usalama initiative is a critical part of our government’s commitment to ensuring that security and citizen services are effectively delivered to the people,” Murkomen said. “By engaging with residents and community leaders, we aim to strengthen national cohesion and build trust between the government and the people.”
In addition to discussions on security, Murkomen’s visit will focus on gathering feedback from the public about their experiences with citizen services. A particular area of interest is the ongoing rollout of the Mobile ID Registration program, which aims to enhance access to essential identification services. The CS emphasized that the government is keen on conducting spot checks to ensure that the rollout is reaching all communities and that citizens can easily access the services.
“During these engagements, we will also conduct spot checks on the Mobile ID Registration rollout, ensuring that it is accessible to everyone, especially in remote areas,” he added. “We want to ensure that no citizen is left behind when it comes to accessing critical government services.”
As part of his working tour across the six counties in the Coast Region, Murkomen will also assess the region's level of disaster preparedness, particularly in light of the rising challenges posed by climate change. With extreme weather conditions becoming more frequent and severe, the CS stressed the importance of being proactive in disaster management.
“The recent climate change-driven weather patterns have posed significant challenges, and it is crucial that we assess the region’s preparedness for disasters,” Murkomen said. “This will help us identify any gaps and take the necessary steps to ensure that our communities are resilient in the face of these rising challenges.”
The Jukwaa la Usalama County Tours are expected to continue in other counties in the Coast Region, with the CS and his team holding discussions with various stakeholders to further enhance the delivery of security services and government programs.
