In an effort to enhance access to citizen registration documents for Kenyans, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen today led a successful Mobile Registration Service session at Majengo Outreach Centre, Mombasa, as part of the ongoing Jukwaa la Usalama coastal tour. The initiative, aimed at making National ID registration more accessible, is part of the government's commitment to ensuring equitable service delivery across the country.
Speaking during the event, CS Murkomen reaffirmed the government's commitment to implementing President William Ruto's directive that the application for National ID for first-time applicants is now free of charge. "I am pleased to witness firsthand that no one is paying to apply for an ID," Murkomen said, emphasizing the administration's pledge to deliver services that are both efficient and non-discriminatory.
In addition to the ID registration updates, the CS highlighted significant strides made in addressing historical injustices, particularly for border communities. "We have effectively ended the longstanding challenges faced by border communities in accessing citizenship registration documents," Murkomen stated.
The event was attended by key stakeholders, including Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang, Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Nassir, and Members of Parliament Mishi Mboko (County), Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), and Badi Twalib (Jomvu). Also present were senior officials from the Ministry of Interior and security agencies, underscoring the collaborative nature of this effort.
"This is a testament to the government's dedication to ensuring that all Kenyans, regardless of where they live, have access to the essential documentation needed to fully participate in society," said Governor Nassir, commending the efforts to expand service delivery to underserved areas.
The ongoing registration efforts are seen as a key step in improving civic participation and enhancing the rights of citizens in the region. The government is committed to ensuring that all Kenyans, regardless of their geographical location, can access these essential services efficiently and without discrimination.
The Majengo Outreach Centre session is part of a broader initiative to bring government services closer to the people, especially in underserved communities across the country.
