Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen today led the fourth day of the #JukwaaLaUsalama Coast Region tour in Mokowe, Lamu County, reaffirming the government's resolve to bring public services closer to citizens and eliminate systemic barriers that have historically hindered access, particularly among marginalized border communities.
Speaking after conducting a spot check of the Mokowe Sub-County Mobile ID Registration exercise, CS Murkomen emphasized the government’s commitment to dignified and inclusive service delivery.
“The abolishment of extra-vetting and ethnic profiling in border areas, especially in the issuance of national identification documents, is a bold step toward equality. By also scrapping the application fee for first-time ID applicants, we are removing historical bottlenecks that have excluded many from accessing their basic rights,” said Murkomen.
The mobile registration exercise at Mokowe Grounds is part of a broader national initiative aimed at ensuring all eligible Kenyans—regardless of ethnicity or location—can obtain legal identification, a vital requirement for accessing government services, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by key leaders including Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, Senator Joseph Githuku, Lamu East MP Obo Ruweida, Lamu West MP Stanley Muthama, and Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, among other senior national and county government officials.
As part of the day’s itinerary, the delegation will later engage with security stakeholders, local leaders, and members of the public to listen to their concerns, share ongoing policy interventions, and assess the broader state of service delivery in the region.
“#JukwaaLaUsalama is not just a tour—it is a national listening forum. We are here to listen, to respond, and to build lasting solutions together with the people. Government must be felt, not just in Nairobi, but right here in Mokowe and across every village in Kenya,” Murkomen added.
The ongoing Coast Region leg of the #JukwaaLaUsalama tour is part of a larger national outreach campaign that seeks to bridge the gap between government and citizens, especially on matters of security, civil registration, and public trust in state institutions.
Murkomen concluded with a firm assurance that no Kenyan would be denied their constitutional right to identity, security, or opportunity on the basis of ethnicity, geography, or socio-economic status.
