Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, joined dignitaries, family, and friends in paying tribute to the late Hon. Amb. John Koech during a memorial service held at Africa Gospel Church (AGC) in Karen.
In a moving eulogy, CS Murkomen described Ambassador Koech as a man of valor, humility, and unwavering patriotism who stepped up in times of national crisis to serve the country with distinction. Recalling the pivotal year of 2005, Murkomen highlighted Koech's willingness to join President Mwai Kibaki’s Cabinet following a divisive referendum, a move that brought stability and confidence during a delicate political moment.
“In times of great danger to the stability of a nation, only great leaders step forward to take responsibility,” Murkomen stated. “Amb. Koech didn’t hesitate when the country needed him most. His life is a lesson in courage, selflessness, and service.”
CS Murkomen praised the late diplomat for his significant contributions to the education sector, infrastructure development, and his role in advancing Kenya’s interests on the global stage through diplomacy. He noted that Koech’s long and successful political career was marked by deep connection to the people he served and a steadfast commitment to public good.
“Today we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will inspire generations to come,” he added. “Fare thee well, Hon. Amb. Koech. Your patriotism and leadership will forever remain etched in our national memory.”
The memorial service was attended by leaders from across the political spectrum, religious leaders, and members of the public who came to honor a man described as both a statesman and a servant of the people.
