CS Murkomen Concludes Lower Eastern Security Tour with Jukwaa la Usalama in Machakos

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen today presided over the final leg of the Lower Eastern Region's Jukwaa la Usalama forums in Machakos County, where he lauded the region's prevailing calm and peace while affirming the government's commitment to resolving key security and administrative challenges.

Speaking during the town hall-style engagement, CS Murkomen praised the productive discussions and open exchange of ideas between security stakeholders and residents, noting that the initiative has provided a clear picture of the security situation on the ground. “Today’s Jukwaa la Usalama engagements in Machakos marked the conclusion of our Lower Eastern Region tour. The interactions were very insightful, and I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who participated,” said the CS.

While commending the region’s current stability, Murkomen urged continued cooperation between residents and security agencies to decisively deal with the few remaining issues. Among the cross-cutting challenges he highlighted were boundary disputes, the operationalization of administrative units, human-wildlife conflicts, highway insecurity, and persistent land disputes — all of which the government has now prioritized for resolution.

A key concern that emerged during the deliberations was the rising cases of livestock theft, which the CS described as a growing threat to local livelihoods. “I’ve directed the security agencies, in collaboration with local administration officers, to bring the perpetrators of stock theft to book without delay,” he stated.

The welfare of security personnel was also discussed, with officers raising concerns about training, career progression, mobility, office space, and transfers. CS Murkomen assured them that these issues are being taken seriously and will be addressed as part of ongoing internal reforms.

The CS was joined at the forum by an array of leaders and senior officials including Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, her Deputy Francis Mwangangi, Principal Secretary for Internal Security Dr. Raymond Omollo, Eastern Regional Commissioner Paul Rotich, Regional Police Commander Charles Naibei, Regional Administration Police Commander Lusweti Barasa, Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko, County Assembly Speaker Hon. Anne Kiusya, Members of the County Assembly, and other ministry officials.

As the curtain falls on the Lower Eastern leg of Jukwaa la Usalama, CS Murkomen reiterated the government's resolve to maintain peace, protect citizens, and support frontline officers, stating that security is a shared responsibility that thrives on trust, collaboration, and timely action.
