DAPK Party Leader Hon. Eugene L. Wamalwa Issues Warning on Political Interference in Key Institutions

DAPK Party Leader Hon. Eugene L. Wamalwa has raised alarms over increasing political interference in critical national institutions. In a strongly worded statement, Wamalwa expressed concerns about the erosion of independence and professionalism within the country's key institutions, warning that the situation was worsening and threatening the nation's democratic framework.

The statement, which has captured the attention of both political observers and citizens, was issued by Wamalwa in response to recent moves by political leaders to influence the decisions of government agencies and entities.

“First, they came for the Speakers of Parliament to campaign for him, and we said nothing because we weren’t MPs. Then they came for the Security Chiefs of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), and the Police, and we said nothing because we weren’t security buffs. Next, will it be the Chief Justice with the microphone, then?” Wamalwa remarked in his statement, drawing a comparison to historical moments where political leaders attempted to consolidate power by undermining vital democratic institutions.

Wamalwa continued to voice his concerns about the growing centralization of power and the diminishing separation of powers between the branches of government. He cautioned that the manipulation of the legislature, security forces, and the judiciary for political advantage threatens the country’s constitutional integrity and the foundation of democracy.

“This is a dangerous path we are heading down,” Wamalwa emphasized. “The independence of Parliament, the security forces, and the judiciary must be safeguarded at all costs. When political influence seeps into these institutions, it erodes the public’s trust in their fairness, impartiality, and effectiveness.”

Hon. Wamalwa also reiterated his party’s commitment to upholding democratic values and protecting the rights of all Kenyans, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance and accountability in safeguarding the country’s democratic processes.

The statement comes amid growing concerns over reports of political interference in key appointments and decisions, leading to fears that the country’s political environment may become increasingly authoritarian.

DAPK, under Wamalwa’s leadership, has consistently called for greater transparency, an end to corruption, and the protection of constitutional rights. The party has called for unity across political divides to resist any attempts to undermine the democratic framework, insisting that true progress can only be achieved when institutions remain independent and free from political manipulation.

As the political landscape in Kenya continues to evolve, Wamalwa’s message has sparked renewed discussions on the importance of preserving the integrity of the nation’s democratic systems and institutions.
