Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Responds to President William Ruto on National Concerns

In a passionate address this morning, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua responded to President William Ruto’s recent comments on national unity and governance, particularly focusing on the issue of transparency and communication within the government.

Speaking from his office in Nairobi, Gachagua expressed his deep concern over what he termed as “pathological lying” within some circles of the political leadership. Gachagua emphasized that the greatest existential threat facing Kenya was not external forces, but rather the erosion of trust between the government and its citizens due to consistent dishonesty.

"We cannot continue on this path where leaders, without any remorse, speak to the people of Kenya and fail to live by their words. This country was built on the values of truth, justice, and accountability. To lose those principles is to lose the very fabric that holds us together," Gachagua said.

The Deputy President, who has been an influential figure within the ruling party, was responding directly to President Ruto’s recent statements on the importance of unity and leadership cohesion. Ruto had urged leaders to put aside personal ambitions and work together to steer the country toward development. However, Gachagua expressed concern that without addressing the issue of dishonesty, such calls for unity would fall on deaf ears.

“I weep for my country. The lies being told in the corridors of power are a bigger threat to Kenya than any external enemy. It is one thing to lie about matters of policy, but to lie about what is happening within our own government is unforgivable,” Gachagua continued. “We must come together to hold each other accountable and ensure that the Kenyan people are not misled by leaders who put their own interests before the well-being of our nation.”

In his response, Gachagua also criticized the lack of coordination within the government, citing the failure of certain leaders to harmonize their messages. “A government that cannot speak with one voice is a government that is doomed. We cannot afford to have each leader pulling in different directions. It undermines our collective mission and makes it impossible to implement the policies that will improve the lives of our citizens.”

The Deputy President urged President Ruto to take immediate action to address what he sees as an escalating problem of dishonesty and disunity within the government. He called for a more structured approach to internal communication, ensuring that all leaders, regardless of their positions, were aligned in their messaging and actions.

“We must restore the faith of the people in their leaders. If we do not, the consequences will be dire. People will lose faith in the government, and the country will fall into further divisions,” Gachagua warned.

As the political landscape in Kenya continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how President Ruto and his administration will respond to these criticisms. What is clear, however, is that the call for integrity, transparency, and unity is becoming an increasingly central theme in the ongoing national discourse.

For now, the nation watches as its leadership navigates the delicate balance between accountability and governance, hoping that truth, rather than lies, will guide Kenya forward.
