DIG Lagat Visits Marsabit County Police Headquarters to Assess Security and Welfare

The Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service (KPS), Mr. Eliud Lagat, today visited the Marsabit County Police Headquarters as part of his ongoing security assessment in the Upper Eastern Region. This marks the second day of his tour aimed at reviewing the region's security situation and reinforcing police operations.

During his visit, DIG Lagat conducted an inspection of critical police facilities, including the Sub-County Headquarters, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices, and the Marsabit Police Station. The visit was an opportunity to identify areas in need of structural and logistical improvements, and several recommendations were made to enhance the efficiency and capacity of the local police service.

The DIG emphasized the importance of improving service delivery within the police service, noting that these enhancements would better position the police to serve the community. "The goal is to ensure that our officers have the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively and with the utmost professionalism," DIG Lagat remarked.

Later in the day, DIG Lagat engaged with officers stationed at the headquarters, addressing a range of important issues, including their welfare, mental health, and financial management. He expressed his appreciation for their commitment to duty, especially given the challenges they face in maintaining law and order in the region.

In his address to the officers, DIG Lagat urged them to work collaboratively and maintain their focus on tackling critical issues such as drug and human trafficking, illicit brews, and counterfeit products. "Your unity and dedication in combating these societal ills are crucial," he said, encouraging the officers to remain vigilant and proactive in their enforcement efforts.

The DIG also took the opportunity to remind officers of their obligation to uphold professionalism, discipline, transparency, and foster strong community relations, in alignment with Article 244 of the Constitution of Kenya, which mandates the police to serve and protect the public while respecting their rights.

The visit was attended by several senior officers, including Marsabit County Police Commander Mr. Leonard Kimaiyo, Chief Police Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Mr. Kennedy Njeru, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mr. Edward Ndirangu, along with other senior officials from the local police service.

DIG Lagat’s visit to Marsabit is part of a broader initiative to ensure that the police service is well-equipped and well-prepared to address both emerging and ongoing security challenges across the country.
