Prominent businessman and farmer Dr. David Langat has called on Kenyans to take advantage of the ongoing rainy season and actively engage in farming, particularly maize planting, to help ensure the country’s food security. Dr. Langat emphasized that the key to achieving national food security lies in the hands of individual farmers across the country.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Langat expressed his gratitude to the government, led by President William Ruto, for its continued support through the fertilizer subsidy program. He praised the initiative, which has made it easier for farmers to access affordable fertilizers and enhance their agricultural productivity. According to Dr. Langat, the program is a crucial step in the right direction to address food shortages and increase local food production.
"The country can only achieve food security if each one of us takes the initiative to work our farms. This is the time to plant maize and other essential crops to secure our food future," Dr. Langat said. He urged both small-scale and large-scale farmers to make full use of the resources available, including the government’s fertilizer subsidy, which he described as a much-needed boost for the agricultural sector.
Dr. Langat’s remarks come at a critical time as the government and agricultural stakeholders work towards strengthening the country’s food systems and reducing reliance on food imports. By encouraging more Kenyans to invest in farming during this rainy season, Dr. Langat hopes to inspire a nationwide effort to safeguard the country’s food security for future generations.
