Eldoret-Based Human Rights Activist Kipkorir Ngetich Calls for Unity and Respect for Leadership Amid Attacks on IG of Police

Human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has called upon the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Faith Odhiambo, and politicians to cease their intimidation and harassment of senior security officers who are diligently carrying out their constitutional duties in safeguarding the nation.

In a strongly worded statement, Ngetich emphasized the constitutional rights of the Inspector General (IG) of Police, saying that the IG is entitled to attend any meeting involving his superior, the President, for security purposes. He pointed out that such engagements not only provide a platform for the IG to interact with Kenyans but also allow him to directly assess the state of his officers on the ground, ensuring they are effectively managing security issues, including crowd control.

“Security officers, especially senior ones like the Inspector General, are not politicians vying for office. They are dedicated public servants who perform their duty in accordance with the law. The IG was not attending these meetings in political regalia, nor was he engaging in partisan activities,” Ngetich stated. “It is troubling to witness certain leaders using provisions of the constitution to intimidate such individuals who are simply doing their job.”

Ngetich also took issue with the LSK President’s vocal condemnation of the IG’s participation in such meetings, pointing out that the same body has been silent in the face of defamatory attacks on President William Ruto and his government. He expressed concern over what he sees as a deliberate and organized effort to undermine the government through social media campaigns, with the aim of portraying the administration in a negative light.

“This is not about partisanship, it’s about national interest,” Ngetich continued. “If the LSK is to continue positioning itself as a champion of democracy, the rule of law, and good governance, it must also take a moment to reflect on its role and actions. Instead of attacking senior security officers, it should engage in constructive dialogue and offer professional advice that benefits all Kenyans.”

The activist stressed the importance of unity, patriotism, and respect for the rule of law, urging the LSK to demonstrate leadership through diplomacy and responsible communication. He reminded the public that Kenya’s security officers, like all citizens, have human rights, and that unjust attacks and condemnation are unwarranted.

“Kenya is a country that needs unity, respect for our leaders, and a commitment to building a better future. We call on the LSK President to join the rest of us in promoting dialogue and peace, not to fuel divisive rhetoric,” Ngetich concluded.

As the political climate in Kenya remains charged, Ngetich’s comments come at a critical time, calling for all stakeholders to focus on national cohesion and the well-being of the country, rather than allowing political maneuvering to cloud their judgment. His statement serves as a reminder that for Kenya to thrive, respect, understanding, and cooperation must prevail above all else.
