Eldoret-Based Human Rights Activist Defends Raila-Ruto Pact, Warns Siaya Governor Orengo Against “Political Hypocrisy”

Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has issued a strong statement condemning what he termed as “attempts to intimidate” former Prime Minister Raila Odinga by Siaya Governor James Orengo, in the wake of the recent unity pact between Raila and President William Ruto.

In a passionately worded press release shared with media houses on Thursday, Ngetich accused Governor Orengo of undermining the former Prime Minister’s decision to work with President Ruto for the sake of national unity and development. Ngetich argued that Raila’s stature as a national and international leader must be respected and that Orengo’s recent criticism was “disrespectful, selfish, and politically misguided.”

“Hon. Raila is a respected statesman who has sacrificed immensely for Kenya’s democratic journey. The governor’s rank is too junior to question or intimidate him,” Ngetich stated. “It is through Raila’s efforts that democratic space has been widened in Kenya—including the very position Orengo now occupies as governor.”

Ngetich went further to accuse Governor Orengo of pushing a personal agenda and misleading the people of Luo Nyanza for political survival. He called on the Luo community and the wider ODM fraternity to reject what he termed as "political hypocrisy" from leaders who are not focused on development.

“Governor Orengo has failed to deliver in Siaya County, and instead of focusing on service delivery, he is trying to create unnecessary political tension. There are credible reports that the EACC is investigating his administration over massive graft involving millions of shillings,” he added.

The activist alleged that the governor is attempting to shield himself from accountability by shifting blame and creating a false narrative of political persecution—at the expense of national unity. Ngetich called upon the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to expedite investigations and recover allegedly embezzled public funds.

“Governor Orengo should not use the Luo community as a political shield. If he is innocent, let him face the law. Kenyans are tired of leaders hiding behind tribalism to escape accountability,” Ngetich asserted.

He further emphasized the importance of the Raila-Ruto unity pact, hailing it as a turning point for Kenya’s future.

“Chaos, anarchy, and endless street protests won’t solve our problems. What Kenya needs now is sacrifice, patriotism, and unity. The handshake between His Excellency the President and the former Prime Minister offers a path to stability and progress,” said Ngetich.
