Elgeyo Marakwet ranks among the top in SHA registration as claims hit Sh75 million

Health facilities in Elgeyo Marakwet County have generated more than Sh75 million from the Social Health Authority (SHA) claims.
Outgoing Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Harry Kimutai disclosed that with an enrolment of 205,607 so far, Elgeyo Marakwet stands as the fourth county with highest number at 45%, in a targeted population of 454,480.
On top of the list is Mombasa County at 55.2 %, followed by Bomet 47.5 and Nyeri at 46.3.
"Elgeyo Marakwet is one of the counties that have made significant progress in SHA enrolment. This is encouraging. It has seen more than Sh75 million shillings claimed by health facilities across the county, " said the PS while addressing more than 150 health facility managers at Iten County Referral Hospital.
County governor H.E. Wisley Rotich said health facilities will be able to effectively operationalize since funds will be directly deposited to their respective accounts.
"Most of our people are receiving treatment courtesy of SHA. What I am happy is that going forward, facilities will start utilizing their claims. They will be able to improve facilities and pay water and electricity bills which have affected most of them in the recent past," said the County chief.
The governor added that the earnings from the authority will also be used to hire specialists on contract, especially at Iten County Referral Hospital.
"We will bring the doctors here instead of referring our patients to other facilities outside the county, " said the Governor.
Notable facilities that have recorded favourable claims include Iten County Referral Hospital, Tot health centre, Kamwosor, Chebiemit Kapyego,Kapcherop, Tambach, and Msekekwa health facilities.
