The long-awaited establishment of the University of Baringo is officially underway following a key meeting held today at the Baringo Governor’s office in Kabarnet. The meeting brought together prominent stakeholders including Hon. Joshua Kandie, the Member of Parliament for Baringo Central, officials from the Commission for University Education (CUE), Moi University representatives, and members of the Baringo County Government to discuss the progress and next steps in the establishment of the institution.
The meeting focused on reviewing the critical groundwork that has already been laid for the university, which is expected to become a pivotal center for higher education in the region. Hon. Kandie, who has been a key advocate for the university, expressed optimism about the initiative, highlighting its potential to transform both education and economic growth in Baringo and its neighboring areas.
“This is a significant milestone in our journey towards establishing the University of Baringo,” said Hon. Kandie. “With the collaborative efforts of our key stakeholders, we are making steady progress to ensure that the groundwork is solid ahead of the official launch by His Excellency, President William Ruto. This institution will provide much-needed educational opportunities and be a key driver of economic development in our region.”
The establishment of the University of Baringo is a response to the growing demand for higher education in the region. By partnering with Moi University and receiving support from the Commission for University Education, the institution will offer quality academic programs that align with Kenya's national development goals, including skills training and research to foster sustainable growth.
The local community and education stakeholders have widely welcomed the initiative, recognizing the positive impact the university will have on the region. Apart from providing access to education, the university is expected to generate employment opportunities and stimulate local businesses, contributing to the overall economic development of Baringo County.
“We are committed to ensuring that this project succeeds,” said one of the education leaders present at the meeting. “The establishment of this university will be transformative not only for students but for the entire community. We are looking forward to its official launch and the opportunities it will bring to Baringo County.”
As preparations continue, the anticipation for the launch of the University of Baringo is building. With collaborative efforts from national and local leaders, the institution is set to become a cornerstone of higher education in the Rift Valley region, offering students access to academic programs that will equip them for the future.
The official launch of the University of Baringo, which is expected to take place later this year, marks a significant step forward in the development of higher education infrastructure in Kenya.
