Fikirini Jacobs was officially sworn in this morning at State House, Nairobi, as the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Youth Affairs and the Creative Economy, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his public service career.
In an emotional yet optimistic statement following the ceremony, PS Jacobs expressed deep gratitude to God, President William Samoei Ruto, and the Kenyan people for the honor and trust placed in him to lead a department that holds the dreams and potential of millions of young Kenyans.
“I am deeply grateful to the Almighty God for this incredible blessing at this stage in my life,” Jacobs said. “I also extend my heartfelt thanks to His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto for the faith he has shown in me and for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading such a vital department in our nation’s development.”
A Commitment to the Youth and Creative Sector
As the new PS at the helm of the Youth Affairs and Creative Economy docket, Jacobs pledged to serve with dedication, integrity, and focus, noting that the department will play a pivotal role in the transformation of the country.
“As I begin this journey, I am committed to serving our country with dedication and integrity, and to ensuring that our ministry plays a key role in driving the transformation of our mother Kenya,” he affirmed.
Jacobs acknowledged the overwhelming messages of support and goodwill from Kenyans both locally and in the diaspora, saying the encouragement had strengthened his resolve to deliver on his mandate.
“My sincere appreciation goes out to all my comrades and fellow Kenyans, both at home and abroad, for the overwhelming support and warm messages of congratulations,” he said.
Focus on Youth Empowerment and the Creative Economy
Under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the youth and creative sectors are recognized as critical drivers of employment, innovation, and national identity. As such, the State Department is expected to spearhead initiatives that provide youth with skills, access to finance, opportunities in the digital economy, and platforms for artistic expression.
PS Jacobs brings to the role a blend of visionary leadership and grassroots experience, and he has already signaled his intention to listen, collaborate, and innovate to unlock the full potential of Kenya’s dynamic youth population.
“This is a time to tap into the energy, creativity, and determination of our young people. Together, we will build a future that rewards talent, supports ambition, and leaves no one behind.”
A New Chapter in Youth-Focused Leadership
Jacobs now joins a growing team of leaders committed to realizing the Kenya Kwanza administration’s goal of inclusive development and national cohesion. His appointment is expected to accelerate efforts to engage youth meaningfully in nation-building while nurturing the creative economy as a viable pillar of Kenya’s economic growth.
