In a surprising response to Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro's recent criticisms, former Cabinet Secretary and 2027 presidential candidate, Dr. Fred Matiang'i, expressed his commitment to maintaining dignified leadership despite the ongoing tensions.
Speaking to the press, Dr. Matiang'i, who has long been a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, described Osoro as "like a younger brother" and emphasized his decision not to engage in reciprocal harshness. "Even if he abuses me, I can't respond. I look at him like a small boy wearing his shorts inside out, and I have to correct him," Matiang'i said, conveying his belief that such behavior stems from immaturity and the need for correction.
Matiang'i acknowledged that Osoro’s criticism might be driven by motivations to secure favor from other political figures or groups. However, he made it clear that he had no intention of responding in kind, instead focusing on his larger goal of providing ethical and sound leadership to the people of Kenya.
“I understand there might be motivations behind his criticisms, perhaps to gain favor elsewhere,” Dr. Matiang’i continued. “However, my primary focus remains on the public's need for sound and ethical leadership. I am committed to serving the people of Kenya with integrity and focus, regardless of personal attacks.”
Matiang’i's comments come amid heightened political dynamics as both he and Osoro continue to make headlines in the lead-up to the 2027 presidential election. While the two have had a history of political engagement, the former CS’s remarks reflect his stance on maintaining respect, regardless of the ongoing verbal exchanges in the public sphere.
As the political climate intensifies, all eyes remain on how these tensions will affect both figures' political futures. While Dr. Matiang'i has chosen to take the high road, it remains to be seen whether Osoro will continue with his pointed criticisms or if a resolution can be reached between the two leaders.
