Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on his former boss, President William Ruto, accusing him and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja of being behind a violent disruption at a church service on Sunday. The incident occurred at the PCEA Kasarani East Parish, where a group of goons attempted to invade the service but were swiftly repelled by Gachagua’s security team.
The attack, which occurred during a tense moment of the service, was halted before any significant harm could be done. However, moments later, when Gachagua took to the lectern to address the congregation, he used the platform to level serious accusations against President Ruto and Governor Sakaja, suggesting they were responsible for orchestrating the foiled attack.
"I want to ask President Ruto: Why are you so determined to unleash a purge against me? Why are you willing to take this conflict even to holy premises? This is not just an attack on me, but on the sanctity of our places of worship," Gachagua said, visibly frustrated.
The former Deputy President’s remarks have ignited political tensions, with many now questioning the nature of the relationship between Gachagua and Ruto, who were once close allies. The accusations come amidst a series of growing political divisions within the ruling Kenya Kwanza alliance.
Gachagua’s comments have sparked a wave of reactions from across the political spectrum, with supporters of the former DP accusing the government of using underhand tactics to intimidate and silence opposition voices. On the other hand, Ruto’s allies have dismissed Gachagua’s claims as unfounded and politically motivated.
As the political drama unfolds, many are watching closely to see if this incident will further strain the relationship between the two former allies or if it will lead to a deeper investigation into the church attack and the allegations made by Gachagua.
