Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed his shock and deep sorrow at the passing of Hon. Janet Marania Teyiaa, who represented Kajiado County as a Woman Representative in the 12th Parliament. Gachagua, in a heartfelt message, described the late Janet as a resilient leader whose contributions to the country and advocacy for persons with disabilities will forever remain etched in the hearts of many.
“I have learned with great shock of the passing on of Hon. Janet Marania Teyiaa. I served with Janet in the 12th Parliament when she represented the people of Kajiado County, and I can say without a doubt that she was a remarkable and hardworking leader,” said Gachagua.
Hon. Janet’s early life was marked by a unique challenge, having been saved by a social worker during her childhood due to a disability. However, Gachagua noted that she epitomized resilience, determination, and an unwavering spirit to overcome adversity. She became a powerful voice for those with disabilities, advocating passionately for their rights and inclusion in society.
“Janet, as a young girl, saved by a social worker due to her disability, embodied the epitome of resilience. She showed the world that nothing can stop a great soul from realizing their dreams, especially for those who are differently abled,” Gachagua reflected.
The former Deputy President highlighted Janet’s significant impact in Kajiado County, where she tirelessly worked to address the needs of the people, particularly focusing on the marginalized and vulnerable members of society. Her advocacy for persons living with disabilities was a key aspect of her legacy, and her contributions have left a lasting impact on the county and the nation as a whole.
“Her contribution to Kajiado County and her relentless work advocating for the rights of persons living with disabilities speak volumes about her resolve. Her advocacy will remain in our hearts as a people,” Gachagua stated.
In his tribute, Gachagua emphasized the gap left by the passing of such a dedicated and passionate leader, acknowledging the immense loss felt not only by her family but by the entire nation.
“She has left a big gap in our nation. Her absence will be felt deeply by the people of Kajiado County, the people of Kenya, and all those whose lives she touched through her work and advocacy,” Gachagua said.
Finally, the former Deputy President extended his deepest sympathies to the immediate family of Hon. Janet Marania Teyiaa, as well as to the people of Kajiado County and the nation at large. He concluded with a prayer for her soul to rest in eternal peace and for perpetual light to shine upon her forever.
“May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may perpetual light shine upon her forever,” Gachagua concluded.
